Their Story

PO1 Pike is a veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan). He is diagnosed with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder by the Department of Veterans’ Affairs.

Max was a rescue dog located in PO1 Pike's home town and was saved by PO1 Pike. Now, Max is going to repay the favor by saving PO1 Pike and his family with a lifetime of unconditional love.

I have only had him [Max] about 3 days and he has already made a difference in my life for the better. I am a full-time firefighter and that affords me 5 days off at a time, which can be a blessing and a curse at the same time. I spend a lot of time alone and that time is often when my head spins out of control, most days I spend hours being angry or anxious or I will cry for no apparent reason and when it's bad, I try to drink it all away! Well, I woke up this morning and I had Max, with his big tail wagging, waiting to go for a walk with me. And, instead of waking up depressed, I just laughed, I haven't started a day off with a laugh in a long time. He might be a rescue dog and some people will say he's lucky I adopted him, but in all reality I think I'm the one who lucked out! Thank you C4H, for helping me to adopt him and all your support for veterans.
